Serving our community is what we do best.
Throughout the 2025 season, the Norfolk Festevents Community Development Program continued to uplift and support local small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and emerging professionals in the event industry.
“The Community Development Program showcases our ongoing promise to lift up local entrepreneurs, partner with impactful charities, and inspire tomorrow’s professionals. With each season of events, we help raise awareness and support for organizations doing meaningful work across our region, all while creating joyful, shared experiences for everyone in our community,” said Festevents CEO Ted Baroody.
The Norfolk Festevents Community Development Program is comprised of three initiatives: the (1) Small Business Outreach Kickstart & Grant Program, the (2) Charity Fundraising Program, and the (3) Karen Scherberger Scholarship & Internship Program.
The 2025 Small Business Outreach Kickstart Grant was awarded to Cooking with Greens, LNK and S & J Professional Catering. The selected businesses were provided complimentary booth space at Five Points Park and the Holiday Yule Log Bonfire & Christmas Market, in addition to cost-free marketing exposure, and guidance in acquiring event-related documentation.
Throughout its 40-plus-year history, Festevents has raised more than $3.5 million for local charities and organizations through the Charity Fundraising Program, including more than $50,000 in 2025 alone. These contributions are raised through the sale of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at Festevents’ events and festivals.
Lastly, the 2025 Karen Scherberger Scholarship was awarded to Andrew Basham for his demonstrated discipline, sacrifice, responsibility, and firm commitment to Festevents. Andrew joined the Festevents Production Team in July 2023 and has quickly become a valued member of the organization. Known for his respectful demeanor, outgoing personality, and strong work ethic, Andrew consistently goes above and beyond to support our festivals and events. In Spring 2025, he began his studies at Richard Bland College of William & Mary yet continues to commute back to Norfolk on weekends to lend his talents to the Festevents team.
The Community Development Program will continue into 2026 and beyond. The 2026 Small Business Kickstarter Program application window is scheduled to open in February.
