Norfolk Festevents, Ltd, a private not-for-profit organization dedicated to producing premier concerts, festivals, ship visits, special events and city celebrations for Hampton Roads, is looking for an experienced Business and Finance Director to join our team. We are looking for a hands-on Business and Finance Director who is capable of working effectively as part of a small, close-knit team. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. S/he is responsible for meeting tight deadlines and performing/overseeing a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and the support of budget and forecast activities. S/he is also responsible for managing human resources functions such as personnel benefits, leave and employee on-boarding. The Business and Finance Director must have strong interpersonal communication skills.

The position reports to the CEO and supervises the Business Manager.

Responsibilities:

1. Directly manages the daily accounting activities required to maintain the general ledger including reviewing general ledger on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy of posting
2. Manages and reviews the work of staff in performance of the accounting function (including, but not limited to, purchase orders, cash reconciliations, check runs, accounts receivable transactions, fixed asset activity, purchase orders/commitments, accounts payable transactions, debt activity, recording of revenue and expenses, etc.)
3. Directly manages the Payroll and HR functions (including, but not limited to, managing personnel deductions and all benefits (health, workmans’ comp, social security, retirement), managing leave records, maintaining personnel records, processing payroll, process and file PR tax reports and taxes, etc.)
4. Cash management including maintaining all of the daily banking requirements including reconciling accounts monthly
5. Manages directly the reconciling, filing and payment of all monthly and quarterly taxes and payments, including but not limited to personnel taxes, sales, meals, admission, personal property, royalty fees and other taxes, payments and fees owed by the company
6. Manage annual insurance renewals for all insurance policies and payments
7. Resolves complex accounting issues or assists other personnel in resolving financial issues
8. Manages directly monthly, quarterly and annual closing activities
9. Produces monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and ad hoc financial reports
10. Responds to inquiries from the CEO, and department managers regarding financial results, special and regulatory scheduled reporting requests and the like
11. Prepare and conduct audit process directly with audit team
12. Oversee other office functions as needed (including, but not limited to, managing full time staff parking, prepare and pay royalties for all events, prepare deposit bank drop bags with change orders for events, etc.)

Requirements for Employment: Employment is at will of the corporation; no contract. Candidates must have clear criminal and driving records and comply with a criminal record and DMV record check, must have valid driver’s license, possess the physical ability to walk short distances, stand or sit for extended periods of time, and walk 2 flights of stairs.
